Growing up in a small town in the Midwest, Douglass Smith dreamed of being a small town banker to help those in his community, but he eventually sold out. He chased the “real money” by going into big city commercial and private banking handling the money for the wealthy elite, but he eventually woke up. He left banking and, along with his wife, interior design and real estate pro Christine Marie Smith, he built a successful real estate and consulting practice. He also built a nationally-known private equity practice that invests in real estate and non-performing loans. His first love, however, was teaching. In his banking days, he coached numerous bankers how to be great lenders.
